I love the month of May, even in these challenging times. Our migrating birds are back, bees of all sorts are buzzing, wildflowers blooming, and if we pause to listen – booming birdsong is everywhere.

While the bluebell has become a British favourite, my joy in May comes from looking up into the emerging green tide of beech trees in my local Epping Forest as the sun streams down. The Japanese have a beautiful word for when you stand beneath a tree and look at the sun through the leaves – Komorebi.

"The confidence I have right now is really valuable; it's a great feeling the sense of direction and purpose I have right now."
